Global Twitter to lead to more mobile marketing?

Twitter has announced that it is to launch a new service that will integrate with other websites, creating the possibility of future Marketing opportunities with the company.

The global micro blogging site is a popular tool for mobile users who blog their activities on the go. Marketing campaigns that may arise with the company could, therefore, be transferred to mobile platforms.

@anywhere will also have the advantage of providing users with the ability to use Twitter without navigating away from the website they are on.

Iain MacMillan, chief executive of social media company RMM London, said that Twitter will first have to examine Marketing carefully before it is introduced to the site in order not to alienate its customers.

He explained: "Twitter will need to find the balance between introducing a potentially intrusive advertising platform and preserving the user experience of the service."

According to Compete.com, the service had over 20 million visitors in the US last month and 4.7 million smartphone users were recorded in January 2010.
